REFLECTION
3.1 What have I learnt in this module?
During this module, in the first period of the semester, I learned the fundamentals of design principles during weeks 1 to 3. However, during weeks 4 and 5, we focused on visual analysis. For Task 1, we were required to explore and observe various design principles through our own design preferences and favored styles. Additionally, I needed to identify an artwork design relevant to design principles and align it with a chosen goal from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG). My choice was the 14th goal (life below water). For Task 2, I learned to identify, describe, and analyze the design principles present in the works of others. Moreover, I gained insight into how design can serve as a solution for visual communication.
Lastly, for Task 3, I learned how to apply and communicate my knowledge and understanding of design principles through purposeful design work. I also acquired skills in organizing and synthesizing written and visual outputs into a final blog post.
3.2 What did I enjoy the most?
What really made me feel that I truly enjoyed this module is how much I enjoyed the feedback and comments. I feel like I'm improving my design skills, and I feel much closer to my friends since I started with zero knowledge in this field.
3.3 What did I not enjoy the most?
The aspect of this module that made me feel uncomfortable isn't really the quantity of tasks, but rather the significant challenges I faced, particularly with coloring and layout. Because compared to my classmates, my own foundational knowledge in design isn't very strong, so I indeed felt quite troubled by it3.4 What have I learnt about myself through this module?
The thing that I learned from this module is, first of all, how to effectively manage my time. I need to prepare my assignments before each week's class, receive feedback from the teacher, make revisions, and repeat this process continuously. I also dedicated more time to learning about design principles. Although it may seem commonplace, this new knowledge has been immensely helpful to me. From Task 2, I learned to analyze artworks using my own taste and perspective to understand how to improve them. Task 3 was the biggest challenge for me. I had to sketch out my designs and digitize them, which troubled me for a long time, especially regarding coloring and layout. Fortunately, the teacher provided timely assistance3.5 What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
Naturally, the biggest change for me in this module is that in my assignments, I have been silently striving to incorporate design principles into my work. Especially in Task 3, which requires us to design an artwork incorporating three design principles, I initially faced significant challenges. However, I feel that the aspect that has remained unchanged is my lack of progress in unfamiliar areas, such as coloring and layout3.6 What could be improved in this module?
So far so good.
