Instruction 

For our concluding project, we were tasked with crafting a comprehensive poster. The aim of this project is to communicate a narrative or theme that mirrors our personal or artistic identity. Furthermore, we are mandated to integrate the knowledge and skills gained from three distinct modules: Typography, Illustration & Visual Narrative, and Digital Imaging & Photography. Our approach involves utilizing a custom-designed font (Typography), integrating a self-portrait (Digital Photography & Imaging), and seamlessly interweaving a relevant motif (Illustration and Visual Narrative) throughout the font and image. The ultimate outcome is expected to be a visually compelling poster with a rich conceptual foundation. 

Details of our final project Size: A4 (2480 pixels x 3508 pixels (print resolution) 595 pixels x 842 pixels (screen resolution)

Biography About Myself &  Statement of My Work

Tell us about yourself 

My name is Chai Wei Yi, and I am 22 years old. I am currently studying Bachelor of Design (Honours) in Creative Media at Taylor's University. My MBTI type is ENFP, characterized by an innate and boundless imagination. I strive to bring joy to everyone around me, and my hobbies are closely tied to spreading happiness. One of my favorite pastimes is playing badminton, and during holidays, I enjoy going to islands to work as a diving instructor. I find great satisfaction in introducing more people to the wonderful sensation of breathing underwater. As for my idol, it's none other than the renowned Hayao Miyazaki. His works have enchanted me, and I find myself deeply immersed in the magical worlds he creates. I aspire to have magical abilities of my own.

What is your passion 

I don't have an extremely profound interest in any specific thing. Instead, I find myself intrigued by all the fresh and interesting things in the world. Anything that broadens my horizons captures my interest, regardless of the field. I feel like I'm constantly learning and exploring this world. That's why I ventured into scuba diving; I want to explore the most mysterious places on Earth. I deeply love daydreaming, imagining myself possessing magical powers that allow me to visit every corner of the world. I love fantasizing about having the magic to bring my desires into reality. 

Whats motivate you to achieve your dream 

What has always motivated me towards my dreams? I've pondered this question, and my answer might not be conventional. In reality, my answer is none. There isn't something or someone consistently motivating me to move forward. It's just that I want to see what tomorrow's sun looks like. I want to discover the surprises the world might bring me. Will the me of tomorrow bring joy to the people around me? What different things will happen to me tomorrow? So, I work hard to live each day well, hoping to witness a better future. That's all there is to it.

How do you want to visualize your dream into an artwork

This year, I enrolled in university, majoring in Design in Creative Media. Without a doubt, this allows me to bring my endless imagination to life through my own hands and showcase it to the world. As for how I plan to digitize the ideas hidden in my mind, I believe I can accomplish that through a poster. Through this poster, I aim to show you all what my envisioned self should look like.

Statement of My work

Tell us about your work

I want to create a poster featuring myself as the main character. Through this poster, I aim to express the version of myself that exists in my imagination – the person I aspire to be. I want to embody the abilities depicted in the poster to enhance and beautify my life.

What is the concept behind it?

What I want to express through this poster is closely tied to my MBTI. As an ENFP, I possess a rich imagination. I enjoy immersing myself in the worlds created by Hayao Miyazaki. I love the magical realm and everything whimsical. I aspire to have magical abilities to change my own life, with the most desired magical power beingthe ability to bring joy to the people around me.

What is the message you want people to understand it

The message I want to convey through this poster is quite simple: don't let the complexities of the world influence your own thoughts. Be the person you want to be. If you enjoy spreading joy, bravely become that person. Don't let the negativity from those around you impact your desire to spread happiness.

When it comes to this poster, there are several key elements to note. Next, I would like to explain them separately

The main color of the entire theme

The reason for selecting green is my personal preference as it happens to be my favorite color. Additionally, this color imparts a more enchanting and magical ambiance to the entire poster.

Lightning

The addition of lightning will make the entire scene look more dynamic and magical. If effects are added in After Effects, it will enhance the visual appeal even further.

Outfit

I chose this outfit because it looks more fitting for the theme but i had shoot out for few photo

Castle of the background

I chose to place a castle in the background of the poster because I wanted the overall poster to not appear too monotonous. It gives a sense of mystery and adds a magical element to the overall look

and also i add on some green light and smoke and make its looks more good

Process for title "MAGIC"

For my title "MAGIC," fortunately, the font I previously designed perfectly aligns with the font I want to use now. Therefore, I just need to add the letters A and M to my FontLab and then apply it to my poster.

Artist Statement

I was genuinely excited about the opportunity to express myself in this final project, despite moments of stress, particularly during the brainstorming phase. Nevertheless, I relished the freedom of conveying our thoughts through our artwork. The motivation behind creating this piece was to emphasize the importance of retaining the desire for happiness within oneself. It's crucial not to prioritize others' opinions in your life; instead, strive to live for yourself. While some may perceive magic as childish and the pursuit of happiness as unrealistic, it remains the most significant goal for me. Hence, I crafted my poster to convey and celebrate this idea

ANIMATION & FINISHING

The software I used to enhance my poster is After Effects. I plan to use it to animate my lightning and magic circle, which will elevate the visual impact of my poster even further.
